  1. Divide the batter between the cake pans. Bake until a toothpick inserted comes out clean with a few crumbs attached, about 34 minutes. Cool completely. Slice each cake in half lengthwise so you have 4 layers of cake total.
  2. Line 2 (8-inch) round cake pans with parchment paper or grease and flour well. Prepare the cake mix according to the package instructions.
